Upward Only Rent (Clauses and Reviews) Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Bill would make unenforceable any term in a commercial lease made before 28 February 2010, or any rent-review decision under it, that sets rent above the current market rate. Landlords and businesses could not contract out of this protection. It aims to help struggling businesses stuck paying rents agreed during the property boom, when rents were much higher.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the unenforceability of clauses which are contained in, or review processes which derive from, a contract concerning the tenancy of business premises and which were executed prior to 28 February 2010 and to provide for related matters
