Housing (Homeless Prevention) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would change housing law so that help can start before someone actually becomes homeless. It would shift the legal focus from responding to homelessness after it happens to preventing it, and it would let local authorities fund or work with approved advice, advocacy, and tenancy-support services from outside the council system. It matters because earlier support can stop people losing their homes and make homelessness services more effective and joined up.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Housing Act 1988 to update the definition of "homelessness", to include prevention of homelessness within its remit, and to facilitate local authorities to harness skills from other sectors in order to more effectively meet the needs of a preventative homeless strategy
