State Boards (Appointments) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would move appointments to many State boards to a centralised, independent process run by the Public Appointments Service. Vacancies would be advertised publicly, candidates assessed on their experience, qualifications and skills, and at least 40% of those recommended—and of appointments made—would be women; serving politicians and election candidates would be excluded. It would also create offences for false applications, canvassing, impersonation or interference with competitions, with fines or prison sentences for serious breaches.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to reform the method whereby persons are recruited and selected for appointment to State boards; and to ensure that persons of the highest quality are recruited and selected for such appointments
