Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) (Amendment) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require high-voltage electricity transmission lines— including 400-kilovolt lines and interconnectors—to be built underground wherever physically possible. Developers would have to show if underground construction was not feasible, while the Minister could set further rules on routes, construction and related matters; those rules could be overturned by either House of the Oireachtas. It was intended to reduce the impact of major electricity infrastructure on communities and the landscape.
