Equality (Amendment) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Adds “socio-economic status” as a protected ground in both employment and everyday services law, including people’s social, economic, income or job status and whether they receive State financial assistance. In practical terms, it would make it unlawful to discriminate against someone because they are poor, unemployed, on a low income, or otherwise disadvantaged in those ways. It matters because it would give legal protection against class-based discrimination, not just the existing grounds like gender, age, or disability.
Formal long title
