Building Control (Carbon Monoxide Detection) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require carbon monoxide alarms in certain homes: in rooms with an open fire, stove or boiler, near bedrooms, and in bedrooms with a flue passing through or over them. The requirement would apply when a home is newly built, sold, newly leased or re-leased, or when a heating appliance is installed or replaced; compliance would need certification by a qualified professional. Local authorities could inspect certificates, with offences and penalties for non-compliance or false certificates, although the servicing and repair requirement would be delayed until economic conditions improve.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the installation of life-saving carbon monoxide detection devices in dwellings; to provide for certification of compliance; to provide for offences and penalties to apply in respect of instances of non-compliance; and to provide for related matters
