Freedom of Movement (Common Travel Area) (Travel Documentation) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would stop transport operators from requiring eligible travellers to show or carry a passport when travelling within the Common Travel Area, including between Ireland and Britain or on domestic journeys. Operators could still check passengers’ identity, using documents such as a driving licence, student card, Garda Age Card or work ID, and passengers could still choose to use a passport. It aims to make passport-free travel easier and more consistent, while preserving existing immigration checks.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to reinforce the Common Travel Area by providing for passport-free travel for persons who are entitled to travel within the Common Travel Area without a passport and to provide for related matters
