Parliamentary Scrutiny of Appointments (European Commission) (No. 2) Bill 2014
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would require the Taoiseach to give both Houses of the Oireachtas details of the Government’s proposed European Commission candidate at least 12 sitting days before the EU deadline. The candidate would have to answer questions before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs; refusing or failing to attend or cooperate would immediately withdraw the candidacy. After a successful hearing, 20 or more members could request a debate in each House, and any replacement candidate would face the same process.
