Criminal Law (Protection of Older People) (Sentencing) (Amendment) Bill 2014

Would introduce tougher sentencing for assaults, serious harm, threats, false imprisonment, burglary and robbery targeting people aged 65 or over, including a new offence of distraction burglary. Where the offender knew or was reckless about the victim’s age, courts would generally have to impose minimum prison terms of seven or 10 years, unless exceptional circumstances applied.
