Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Bill 2014
Public bill · Government · Presented
Requires registered doctors to show the Medical Council that they have enough medical indemnity insurance, unless they are not practising and pose no risk. It also gives the Council powers to set minimum cover levels, check evidence, remove doctors from the register if they fail to comply, and helps protect patients by making compensation more likely if care is negligent.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 to provide for a requirement for registered medical practitioners to have medical indemnity insurance except in certain circumstances; to give effect to Article 4(2)(d) of Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare; and to provide for related matters
