Sport Ireland Bill 2014

Would create Sport Ireland as a single body combining the Irish Sports Council and the National Sports Campus Development Authority, responsible for promoting participation, supporting elite athletes, developing the National Sports Campus and overseeing anti-doping measures. It would transfer the existing bodies’ staff, property, funding arrangements and ongoing work to Sport Ireland, while strengthening anti-doping rules and enforcement.

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the administration of sport in the State; to provide for the establishment of a body to be known in the Irish language as Spórt Éireann or in the English language as Sport Ireland; to provide for the dissolution of the Irish Sports Council and the National Sports Campus Development Authority; to update the law in relation to doping in sport; and to provide for related matters
