The proposal would remove the constitutional ban on abortion by deleting the relevant wording from Article 40, in both the Irish- and English-language versions of the Constitution. It would allow the Oireachtas to make laws providing for abortion in Ireland, but would not itself set out the rules or conditions for accessing it; those would have to be decided in later legislation.
