Vulnerable Persons Bill 2015

Aimed at protecting older people and other vulnerable adults, the proposal would make a range of financial abuse actions offences, including taking someone’s money or assets without permission, using confidential financial information for personal gain, forcing changes to a will or other document, forging signatures, and blocking access to funds. It also covers causing harm or distress in order to control a person’s belongings, and sets out fines and possible prison terms for the most serious wrongdoing. Its purpose is to help safeguard people who may not be able to protect their own money or property.
