Seanad Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2015
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Adds members of local councils to the group of people who vote in Seanad bye-elections to fill casual vacancies. It also updates the electoral roll for those bye-elections so it includes current members of the Dáil, Seanad, and local authorities, and it removes an older section of the 1947 Seanad electoral law. The point is to broaden who can take part in choosing replacement Senators and make the process clearer and up to date.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to expand the electorate of Seanad Éireann bye elections to fill casual vacancies occurring amongst those members of Seanad Éireann to members of local authorities and to provide for matters incidental to or connected with such elections
