Prisons Bill 2015
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Prisons Bill 2015 would allow St Patrick’s Institution to close completely and remove the remaining legal rules allowing courts to send people under 21 there. It would set out how existing detention orders, outstanding warrants and people on temporary release would be dealt with after closure, and remove references to the institution from other laws. It would also update the general rules for closing prisons, including allowing outstanding warrants for a closed prison to be carried out at another specified prison; no additional public spending is expected.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the closing of Saint Patrick's Institution; to make further provision for the closing of prisons; for those purposes to amend the Prisons Act 1933 and to provide for consequential amendments to certain other enactments; and to provide for related matters.
