Equal Participation in Schools Bill 2015
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Equal Participation in Schools Bill 2015 would remove the legal exception allowing schools to discriminate in admissions on religious grounds. It would also replace references to a school’s religious ethos with a requirement to respect everyone’s constitutional and human rights, require objective and non-indoctrinating teaching, and set minimum standards for exemptions from religious or faith-formation classes.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to end religious discrimination in admission to primary and post-primary educational establishments and to provide for full participation of pupils of all faiths and none in primary and post-primary educational establishments.
