Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) (Amendment) Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would allow highly similar “biosimilar” medicines to be substituted for biologic medicines, removing an existing restriction in the 2013 law. For patients starting treatment, prescribers could choose the biosimilar where they consider substitution appropriate, potentially widening access and reducing medicine costs; the Health Minister would decide when the changes take effect.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013 to allow interchangeability between biologic and biosimilar medical goods.
