Assaults on Elderly Persons Bill 2015
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Assaults on Elderly Persons Bill 2015 would require courts to set a minimum three-year prison term for people convicted of seriously assaulting, threatening to kill or seriously harm, or injuring with a syringe someone aged 65 or over. The minimum would not apply to children under 16, and could be waived where exceptional circumstances—such as an early guilty plea or substantial help with the investigation—would make it unfair. If passed, it would take effect one month later.
Formal long title
