Universities (Development and Innovation) (Amendment) Bill 2015

The proposal would give universities clearer protection for academic freedom and job security, support career paths for researchers, and preserve the humanities. It would limit State control mainly to taxpayer funding, create a separate pension scheme for new staff, and encourage universities to commercialise research, develop spin-out companies and turn intellectual property into jobs and innovation.
