The Bill would establish an independent nine-member Low Pay Commission to recommend the national minimum wage each year, considering workers’ incomes, employment, productivity, living costs and business competitiveness. The Minister would decide whether to accept or change the recommendation, explaining any departure to the Oireachtas; the Commission would cost an estimated €500,000 annually.
