Choice of Court (Hague Convention) Bill 2015
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Bill would give legal effect in Ireland to the 2005 Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements, under which businesses can agree which country’s courts will hear an international commercial dispute. It would set out how Irish courts recognise and enforce judgments from countries covered by the Convention, including procedures for applications, evidence, translations, interest and costs. As the European Union has responsibility for the Convention, Ireland would implement it through this legislation rather than ratifying it independently.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to give effect to the Convention on Choice of Court Agreements done at The Hague on the 30th day of June 2005 and approved on behalf of the European Union pursuant to Council Decision 2014/887/EU and to provide for related matters
