Harbours Bill 2015
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Harbours Bill 2015 would enable the Minister to transfer control of Drogheda, Dún Laoghaire, Galway, New Ross and Wicklow ports to their local authorities, either by transferring the Government’s shares or dissolving the port companies and moving their assets, debts and staff. It would give local authorities greater oversight while keeping national policy controls, and strengthen board skills, employee representation, financial reporting and accountability. It also allows possible future transfers of Bantry Bay and Dundalk harbours and updates older shipping, harbour and pilotage laws.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to allow for the transfer of shareholdings in certain port companies to local authorities, for the transfer of certain port companies to local authority control and for the dissolution of certain port companies, to amend and extend the Harbours Acts 1996 to 2015, to repeal the Harbours Acts 1946 and 1947 and to amend the Merchant Shipping Act 1992 and the Fishery Harbour Centres Act 1968 and to provide for connected matters
