The Defence (Amendment) Bill 2015 would add Vice-Admiral to the Defence Forces’ official list of commissioned naval ranks, making it the naval equivalent of Lieutenant-General. It was intended to allow Rear-Admiral Mark Mellet, the planned next Chief of Staff, to hold the appropriate rank from September 2015. The change would have no financial cost to the State.
