Banded Hours Contract Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Workers employed continuously for at least six months could ask in writing to move to a higher guaranteed weekly-hours band, based on their average hours over the previous six months. Employers would have to give a written, reasoned answer within 21 days and could refuse only where serious financial difficulties threatened jobs, the business or its ability to provide the extra hours. Employers would also have to display upcoming available hours and their relevant band, while workers could challenge unjustified refusals through the workplace-relations system.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for banded hour contracts, the right for a worker to request increased hours and a corresponding obligation on an employer to consider such a request, to permit refusal only on objectively justified grounds and an obligation on employers to provide information to workers on the overall working hours available in the employment
