Coroners (Amendment) Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Coroners (Amendment) Bill 2015, known as “Jake’s Amendment”, would allow an inquest to record “iatrogenic suicide” where medical treatment, including prescribed medication, was the primary cause of a person taking their own life. It would distinguish this finding from an ordinary suicide verdict while making clear that it would not itself assign civil or criminal responsibility. The proposal was prompted by concerns about antidepressant-related suicides and aims to ensure that possible treatment-related causes are formally recognised.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Act of 1962 to provide for a verdict of Iatrogenic Suicide and related matters
