Referendum (Amendment) Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would set clearer deadlines for court challenges to referendum results. The High Court would normally have to decide a referendum petition within 90 days of its filing; any appeal would have to be lodged within seven days, with the appeal court expected to decide it within 90 days. It would also clarify that a local returning officer must assist the court when asked, while still being available as a witness for either side.

Formal long title
