Criminal Justice (Knife Possession) Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Criminal Justice (Knife Possession) Bill 2015 would amend existing law to require a minimum prison sentence of 12 months for anyone convicted of unlawfully possessing a knife in a public place. It would give the Minister for Justice power to decide when the change would take effect. The proposal matters because it would remove the courts’ ability to impose a shorter sentence for this offence.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990 to create a mandatory minimum sentence on conviction of unlawful possession of a knife in a public place
