Longer Healthy Living Bill 2015
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Longer Healthy Living Bill 2015 would let employees of the Department of Health and bodies it directly funds choose to work beyond the compulsory retirement age in their contracts, while keeping their existing employment terms. They would normally be presumed fit to work, but could be required to retire if a medical assessment found they could not safely do their job; they could appeal through a review by three doctors. The measure would also allow some people who had recently retired because of the age rule to seek reinstatement.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to ensure that all those who are employees of the Department of Health, and all those who are employed by bodies directly funded by the Department of Health, may, if they wish, postpone their retirement where they would otherwise have been forced to retire at a particular age that is stipulated in their employment contract, subject to their continuing capacity to fulfil the duties of their employment in a safe fashion
