Ramming of Garda Vehicles Bill 2015

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would make it a specific offence to deliberately ram a Garda vehicle, or a vehicle being used by a Garda on duty, and would define ramming as intentionally causing a collision with a vehicle. Courts would have to impose a prison term of up to 10 years for adults convicted of that offence, unless there was no deliberate intent or it would have been unreasonable to know the vehicle was a Garda vehicle. It matters because it aims to strengthen protection for Garda members and their vehicles during dangerous confrontations.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the imposition of terms of imprisonment on persons found guilty of ramming a Garda vehicle
