Public Bodies Review Agency Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a new Public Bodies Review Agency to regularly check how State bodies are working and whether they are still needed, fit for purpose, or should be reformed, merged, or even wound down. As shown in the memorandum and the diagram on page 8, the agency would review listed public bodies at least once every seven years, report its findings, and be able to recommend changes; ministers would then have to respond within 90 days. It would also help set service standards for public bodies, gather information for its reviews, and report to the Oireachtas, with its work overseen by a board and chief executive. The point is to bring more regular scrutiny and improvement to public bodies, so they keep delivering useful services and value for the public.
