Employment Equality (Abolition of Mandatory Retirement Age) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Ends compulsory retirement ages for most jobs by changing the employment equality law so employers generally cannot require someone to retire at a set age if they are still able to do the work. It still allows mandatory retirement in a few specific areas such as the Gardaí, Defence Forces, fire services, and certain security jobs, and it keeps open the option of voluntary retirement incentives. The aim is to give older workers more freedom to stay in work and reduce age discrimination.
Formal long title
