Hallmarking (Amendment) Bill 2016
Public bill · Government · Presented
Adds palladium and mixed precious metals to Ireland’s hallmarking rules, so they can be tested and stamped like gold, silver and other precious metals. It also lets the Irish Assay Office arrange for hallmarking to happen outside the State, either by setting up approved offices abroad or by working with assay offices in countries covered by the International Hallmarking Convention, while keeping Irish standards and marks in place. The changes also update offences, forged-hallmark rules and charges so the system works for modern precious-metal trade.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the law relating to the assaying and hallmarking of articles of precious metal; to make provision for the assaying and hallmarking in certain circumstances of articles of precious metal outside the State; and, for those purposes, to amend the Hallmarking Act 1981; and to provide for related matters.
