Employment Equality (Amendment) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Abolishes mandatory retirement in workplaces where an employee can show they are still fully fit to do the job under their contract. It says fitness should be judged on physical and mental ability, job performance, knowledge and experience, and that if an employer accepts the claim, retirement cannot be forced for at least a year, with yearly review after that. If there is a dispute, the matter can go to the Workplace Relations Commission.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Employment Equality Act 1998 to allow for the abolition of mandatory retirement where an employee can provide evidence of full fitness to work as required in their contract of employment
