North - South Interconnector Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require public meetings where any part of the North–South electricity interconnector is planned within 600 metres of a home or public place, with information about environmental harm, property losses or damage to local businesses made available where independently established. If more than half of the local host community opposed the disputed part at the meeting, the Minister would have to stop construction and order that section to be rerouted underground; it would also protect public access to information, participation and environmental justice.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to regulate the North – South interconnector providing regulations for erection adjacent to dwellings and public places, re-routing of disputed interconnector parts underground following opposition during public consultations and related matters
