Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2016

The Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2016 would require a local referendum before the Minister could change a county boundary. Voters in the affected area would decide, and the Minister would have to follow the majority result. It was introduced as a Private Member’s Bill by Denis Naughten.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Local Government Act 1991 to ensure that the county status of a community shall not be altered without the explicit consent of the majority of its electorate.
