Statute Law Revision Bill 2016
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure clears out old, unused laws by repealing 297 Public General Acts passed between 1922 and 1950 that have become spent, obsolete, or unnecessary. It also includes a safeguard so that simply being listed for repeal does not mean a law was still fully in force right before repeal. The point is to tidy up the statute book, making the law easier to understand and reducing confusion and unnecessary legal costs.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to promote the revision of statute law by repealing enactments which have ceased to be in force or have become unnecessary
