Corporate Manslaughter Bill 2016

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

A new criminal offence would be created for companies or other undertakings that cause a death through gross negligence, especially where poor health and safety practices or bad management are to blame. It would also make it a separate offence for a senior manager whose grossly negligent management causes a death, and it would let courts impose penalties such as fines, remedial orders, community service orders, public naming, and disqualification from management. The aim is to make workplaces safer and ensure organisations and decision-makers can be held personally accountable when preventable deaths occur.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to create the indictable offence of corporate manslaughter by an undertaking, to create the indictable offence of grossly negligent management causing death by a high managerial agent of the undertaking, and to provide for related matters
