Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) (Amendment) Bill 2016

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Aimed at making some newer medicines easier to use in place of existing ones, this proposal would change the 2013 rules so biologic medicines and cheaper biosimilar versions can be treated as interchangeable. It would also give a prescriber more freedom, in the case of a new patient starting treatment, to decide that a substitute medicine can be used even where an automatic clinical exemption might otherwise apply. In practice, it could widen patient access to lower-cost alternatives and help reduce spending on medicines.

Formal long title
