Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would ban onshore hydraulic fracturing, often called fracking, for petroleum in shale rock, tight sands and coal seams, including in Ireland’s internal waters. It would stop licences, permits and state-backed exploration or extraction, and also block related infrastructure and the processing or disposal of waste fluids in Ireland. The aim is to protect water supplies and reduce pollution and climate impacts.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the prohibition of the exploration and extraction of petroleum from shale rock, tight sands and coal seams in the Irish onshore and Ireland's internal waters.
