Banded Hours Contract Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a way for workers on variable hours to ask for a contract with a higher, fixed weekly hours band after at least six months’ continuous service. Employers would have to consider the request and give a written reply within 21 days, and could refuse only for serious, objectively justified business reasons such as major financial difficulty. It also requires employers to tell workers, on a weekly or monthly basis and in clear English and Irish, how many hours are available and what band those hours fall into.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for banded hour contracts, the right for a worker to request increased hours and a corresponding obligation on an employer to consider such a request, to permit refusal only on objectively justified grounds and an obligation on employers to provide information to workers on the overall availability of working hours in the employment
