Companies (Amendment) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would make company officers personally responsible if they were involved in, approved of, or neglected a breach of employment law carried out by a company or by officers acting for it. In plain terms, it would stop people behind a company from hiding behind the business structure when workplace law is broken. Its main importance is to strengthen accountability and give workers added protection by targeting the individuals who allowed the breach to happen.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Companies Act 2014 to hold a company officer or officers acting on behalf of a corporate body personally liable where a breach of employment law is committed
