Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill 2016

The Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill 2016 would add several substances to Ireland’s list of controlled drugs, including zopiclone, zaleplon, “Clockwork Orange”, MT-45 and several new psychoactive substances, strengthening the authorities’ ability to tackle their illegal trade. It would also enable the Health Products Regulatory Authority, rather than the Minister for Health, to issue drug licences, update references to nurses and midwives, and replace or revoke outdated regulations and orders.

Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the law relating to the prevention of the misuse of certain dangerous or otherwise harmful drugs and for those purposes to amend the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 to provide for the control of additional substances; to make further provision for the transfer of functions relating to the grant of licences under that Act from the Minister for Health to the Health Products Regulatory Authority; to revoke certain statutory instruments; and to provide for related matters
