Public Holidays (Lá na Poblachta) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a new public holiday on 24 April each year, called Lá na Poblachta, to mark the 1916 Rising and remember the sacrifices made in the struggle for an independent Irish republic. It would give workers the usual right to a day off or a substitute day if the date falls on a weekend, and it would set up Bord Lá na Poblachta to organise events in every county, fund commemorations, and promote public understanding of the ideas behind the 1916 Proclamation. It also provides for a dedicated fund, advisory subcommittees, and an annual report to the Oireachtas.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the amendment of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 and establishment of a body to be known as Bord Lá na Poblachta and for related matters
