Industrial Relations (Right to Access) (Amendment) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Allows trade unions to visit workplaces to speak with their members about pay, conditions, safety, collective bargaining, and other union business, with the employer’s consent. It also sets out how access would work: unions would need to ask for permission, visits would have to be reasonable and respectful of workplace rules, and employers would have to let members attend limited union meetings each year, on pay for up to two hours. Access could still be refused where security, defence, or criminal investigations could be put at risk.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2015 so as to allow Trade Unions access to their members in the workplace for purposes related to the employment of its members or for purposes related to the Union's business or both
