Shannon River Agency Bill 2016

The Shannon River Agency Bill 2016 would establish an independent Shannon River Agency to coordinate public authorities and other organisations responsible for managing and protecting the Shannon catchment. The Agency would promote better water quality, protect fish and bird habitats, help control pollution, advise authorities, and prepare a public water-management and pollution-control plan within a year. It would be led by a chairperson and up to 20 members with relevant knowledge or experience, and would report regularly to the Minister.

Bill entitled an Act to co-ordinate the activities of authorities, agencies, and bodies connected with the protection, conservation, management, water management and control of pollution of the Shannon river catchment, to establish a body to be known as the Shannon River Agency, to define its functions, and to provide for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid
