Registration of Wills Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a new official register for wills, run through the civil registration service, so that a person or their solicitor can record basic details of the will and who is holding it. The aim is to make wills easier to find after death, while keeping the information private during the person’s lifetime. It also updates the civil registration rules so registrars can handle wills, allow corrections, issue certified copies after death, and face penalties if they wrongly refuse to register a will.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the extension of the civil registration service to the registration of certain information regarding wills and for those purposes to revise the law relating to the civil registration service and to provide for related matters.
