Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bill 2016
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bill 2016 would let the Criminal Assets Bureau seize property other than land for up to 24 hours, with a possible further 21-day detention while it investigates suspected criminal proceeds and seeks court action. Owners could ask the High Court to end or change the detention and seek compensation if the Bureau fails to obtain a court order; the value threshold for action would also fall from €13,000 to €5,000, bringing more property within reach.
