Flood Insurance Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a rule that property insurers must treat people in flood-prone areas fairly when offering cover, including the price and terms they quote. It lets customers complain to the Financial Services Ombudsman if they are refused insurance or charged unfairly, and gives the Central Bank power to check insurers’ practices, issue binding directions, and seek court enforcement with fines if insurers do not comply.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for fairness in the market for property insurance, and to provide for related matters.
