Electoral (Amendment) (Voting at 16) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Would let 16-year-olds be added to the electoral register for European Parliament and local elections, if they live in the area and meet the ordinary residency rules. In practice, it would lower the voting age for those elections to 16 by changing the registration rules, so eligible teenagers could take part sooner. It matters because it would give younger people an earlier say in local and European politics.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to reduce to sixteen years the age at which a person is entitled to be registered as a European Parliament and Local Government elector, and to provide for related matters
