Corporate Manslaughter (No. 2) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a criminal offence where a company or other organisation causes a death through gross negligence, and a separate offence for a senior manager whose serious failure helps cause that death. It also sets out possible penalties, including fines, prison for the individual manager, and court orders requiring the organisation to fix the problems, carry out community service, publicise the conviction, or bar managers from holding similar posts. Why it matters: it would make organisations and senior decision-makers personally accountable for fatal safety failures, rather than leaving responsibility only at the company level.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to create the indictable offence of corporate manslaughter by an undertaking, to create the indictable offence of grossly negligent management causing death by a high managerial agent of the undertaking, and to provide for related matters
